I finished up my early war Buffalos, so it was time to work on some mid to late war air support. I had a few Spitfires that I got in a batch of Axis and Allies planes that I picked up. I decided they would be a good candidate for my Aussies.

The colors on the model were a bit odd, so this was going to be a bit more of a job than the earlier models. I basically redid all the colors on the model with other shades, to make it more Pacific theater centric. I started with the undersides, which were a blotchy gay color. I changed these to more of a duck egg blue wetbrush. On the upper surfaces, I went with a dark earth to replace the gray brown color and a green to replace the dark olive. Since all the colors were lighter, I was able to use the existing color as a shade in the recesses. I then painted the details with black for wheels and exhaust. I painted the spinner blue and redid the canopy.

Doing all the brush work wiped out the decals. Ironically, the model has some of the nicer markings, but you can’t make an omelet… I got some decals for the plane and applied them to the plane for the markings. Unfortunately, the white centers did not cover well, so I had to repaint those white. Once that was sorted, I satin coated the models and went back with some gloss coat on the canopy glass.

That wraps up the Aussies, at least for now!
